Overcome! Enjoy eternal life

Everybody wants heaven on earth. Nobody’s going to get it until God sends the archangel Michael to blow the celestial trumpet and announce the Great Day of Judgment.

In the meantime, brothers and sisters, you and I are in the middle of a live-fire exercise. It’s war. We are under outward assault from Satan, his demons, and all his many human helpers. Worse, we are internally at risk from our own sinful hearts and weak flesh. Over and over God encourages us in his Word to hear his voice, believe his promises, claim his unconditional love and free forgiveness, and overcome.

The book of Revelation contains seven mini-epistles to seven congregations in western Asia Minor. Each one concludes with the intense encouragement for the believers to fight their spiritual battles and do whatever it takes to prevail: “To him who overcomes, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God” (Revelation 2:7).

Adam and Eve were expelled from the Garden of Eden, among other reasons, in order that they wouldn’t eat of the tree of life in their sinful condition and be locked forever in their brokenness. Here is God’s wonderful promise to all overcomers, i.e., those who didn’t throw their faith away and cave into Satan’s lies: immortality in our original, pristine spiritual condition.

Imagine it: You will never feel more alive. Sickness and death will never trouble you again.
