We May Not Realize...

DAY 5 OF 5

... just how soon He's coming back.

There are days when I turn on the news or read headlines on my newsfeed and feel like I'm living out of a scene from Revelation. Perhaps you can relate? Such instances remind us of the urgency of forging a saving personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Salvation is not something any of us can afford to procrastinate over. We do not realize how soon He may be coming back!

Jesus promised His disciples - and, by extension, all of us - He would return, that He was preparing a place for all those who put their faith in Him (John 14:1-3). He did not specify exactly when He was coming back, only that He would just as soon as our Heavenly Father gave Him the go-ahead (Matthew 24:36).

What is our Heavenly Father waiting on?

Us.

God is graciously giving humanity as much time as possible to repent and put their faith in Jesus Christ before sending Him back for us (2 Peter 3:9). Of the world's nearly 8 billion inhabitants, less than 20% have not heard the Gospel. That's still close to 2 billion people, but that number is shrinking everyday!

Just how soon is He coming back? How much longer do we have to wait? I don't know. Truth be told, none of us do. But that's okay! Our faith and obedience are not dependent on God giving us all the answers.

Jesus commanded us to be ready at a moment's notice (Matthew 24:42-44), because when the day and hour of His return come, it will be sudden (2 Peter 3:10) and unmistakable (Revelation 1:7). Hopefully, by now, we realize God is faithful. He always, always, always keeps His promises. So we can take Jesus at His word when He says, "Look, I am coming soon, bringing my reward with me to repay all people according to their deeds." (Revelation 22:12)

Day 4

About this Plan

We May Not Realize...

While there are many divine mysteries this side of Eternity no man will ever understand, there are many other basic truths found throughout Scripture which are fairly straightforward and easy to grasp - we just may not realize it. This 5-day devotional will explore - in easy to understand language - the nature of our sinfulness, how loved we truly are, and how very easy it is to receive salvation.
