Not the Patterns of the WorldSample
Purity Is Precious
In the world today, power brings with it easy access to anything that the heart desires. Many senior leaders get away with moral and financial misuse of their authority. We must realise that all authority we have has been given to us by God and when we don’t wield it correctly, but abuse it, the names of our institution and our God are sullied. Practices and protocols should be put into place so that individuals and institutions do not misuse the power they have and thus lose the opportunity to bring glory to His name.
In the beginning, at our hospital, we longed for a team that had the vision to reach the poor and marginalised. This great work also had to be carried out in such a manner that there was purity and integrity in the work. We set about establishing protocols and practices that would ensure that a Christian work atmosphere would be established, and any moral or financial impropriety would be nipped in the bud before permanent damage is done to an institution and a people that bear God’s name.
David was a man after God’s own heart. However, even when he had everything, he succumbed to the temptation for more. He misused his God given authority and committed both adultery and murder. Therefore, he was punished by God, but it doesn’t stop there. In today's verse, Nathan said to David – you have given occasion to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme His name. One of the reasons that people are closed to the life saving grace of Christ today is the poor behaviour of His people. Our actions should reflect the Lord we claim to serve.
The great evangelist, Dr. Billy Graham, adopted ‘The Modesto Manifesto’ to prevent himself from falling into temptation. Physically, we may be in this world but, in reality, we live in God’s Kingdom by His principles. As humans, we are not immune to sin, but we can take a vow of purity and integrity and put into practice safe protocols to preserve us. If we are not careful, we can lose everything we are living for.
Father, help us to reflect Your purity and integrity. Amen
