The Light of the WorldSample
Q: Who is Jesus?
A: Jesus is God’s eternal Son and Israel’s Messiah, the promised Savior. Through Jesus, we can know God.
Who is Jesus? Many modern thinkers agree that he was a moral teacher with good ideas about how people should treat each other. But Jesus is more than a teacher or a good person: He is God in human form, sent to earth to rescue people from the darkness of sin and call them into the light of new life with God.
Jesus didn’t just teach or heal people during his ministry to improve their lives. He was inviting them to follow him into a new life–real life–the kingdom of God. He called people to turn from their old, sinful way of life and believe in him so they could experience the world as it should be: with God reigning as king.
To break sin’s power over people, Jesus had to do more than preach and perform miracles. He had to defeat, once and for all, the ultimate consequence of sin: death. Jesus, who had no sin, took the penalty we all deserve. But death couldn’t hold him! Jesus came alive again, and his resurrection freed us from the forever death of sin so that we can experience the reality of life in God’s kingdom!
In this passage, one of Jesus’ disciples, Peter, gives a quick snapshot of Jesus’ life and ministry. You’ll see that Jesus is more than a good teacher. He’s the only hope for the world.
