More Like Our Savior

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)

God knows all about our situation and the stress and strain that we all go through. And he wants us to know through his Word that, no matter our circumstances, he is working for our good. What a good reminder for every believer in Christ this holiday season!

In the midst of it all, God is putting his finger on areas he wants to work on in our lives because he wants us “to be conformed to the image of his Son” (Romans 8:29). Yes, God has promised to supply our needs. But his main work in the life of every Christian is to make us more like our Savior. God has all of us in this process of chipping away and replacing our old nature, by his Spirit and by his grace, with more and more of Jesus. His purpose is that our light will shine before others so that when they meet us, they can see how beautiful Christ is through our lives.

This Christmas let’s let God work in us, even through the difficulties of life; for Christlikeness gives us peace and joy of the deepest kind. Let’s not give in to fear and anxiety. God is watching over us, and he is working for our good. Those are his promises. May he do his work in all of us, making us sweeter, more patient, and loving— like our Lord and Savior.

Pray with me: Lord, not just in the good times, but even more so in the tough times, help us to look to you. We don’t want to give in to panic or questioning, “Why?” and “For how long?” Instead, we want to say, “Have thine own way, Lord. Mold me and make me after thy will.” Give us the gift of your grace that will make us more like Jesus. Give your people the best Christmas we’ve ever had, in fellowship with you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
