Biblical Advice on Living WellSample
Live wisely
“Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding, for the gain from her is better than gain from silver and her profit better than gold.” (Proverbs 3:13-14)
The book of Proverbs gives all kinds of practical advice. Time and again, it points out the importance of wisdom. True wisdom is more precious than gold or silver. It protects you from making foolish choices. It helps you see through people’s bad intentions. It helps you discern what is really important in life. Nothing you desire can compare with wisdom!
So wise people seek wisdom. Some philosophize about life, read high-level literature or engage in hours of discussion to enhance their understanding of the world. There is nothing wrong with that. Yet that never takes us beyond the limits of our own intellect or the wisdom of our discussion partners — and what's more, we can just go astray with our reasoning. God's Word, on the other hand, contains wisdom that is absolutely reliable and has its origin in the Eternal One. Seeking true wisdom is therefore inseparable from knowing God and His Word, the Bible. “For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding” (Proverbs 2:6, compare also James 1:5). This wisdom is not limited to abstract philosophies, but directly affects our actual words and actions.
Are you searching for wisdom? Where do you seek it?
