The Gospel Connections
Gospel Connections
Gospel Connections are the links between a biblical story and the gospel of Jesus. Review the Gospel Connections below and learn how to find Jesus in every story of the Bible.
Gospel Connection 1
- Israel came to Rephidim in the wilderness and found no water (Exod 17:1). So the people quarreled with Moses and tested God (Exod 17:1-3).
- At the Feast of Tabernacles, memorializing Israel's wandering in the wilderness, Jesus said. “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me” (John 7:38-39).
Gospel Connection 2
- Moses cried out to the Lord, because they were at the point of stoning him (Exod 17:4).
- The people rejected Jesus, and those in the temple took up stones to stone him (John 8:59).
Gospel Connection 3
- The Lord told Moses to take his staff in his hand and go to a rock in Horeb, where the Lord would stand upon the rock (Exod 17:5-6).
- Jesus in Jerusalem, which was spiritually identified with Sinai and Horeb (Gal 4:24-25), was taken outside the city to a hill called Golgotha (Matt 27:33). Jesus was the Rock that was to be struck to bring forth water (1 Cor 10:4).

About this Plan
Once again, the Israelites found themselves at the point of death. They were traveling in the hot, desert wilderness, and they could not find any water. But God told Moses to bring the people to a rock on Mount Sinai. When Moses struck the rock, water came out in abundance, delivering God's people from death to life! In 1 Corinthians 10:1-4, the apostle Paul tells us that the rock was a picture of Jesus! But what exactly does Paul mean by that?
