Fathers Are Needed: Devotions From Time Of GraceSample
Fathers are needed to provide for their families.
People know that fathers are needed to provide for their families. Or do they? Single moms who say they can raise their children without a man are being brave, but their lives are going to be hard, really hard. To Jesus it was so obvious that fathers are depended on as providers that he made it an assumption in a little story about the wonderful providing that God the Father did for his children: “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone?” (Matthew 7:9)
The obvious and expected answer is, “Well, nobody.” Any father worthy of the name is dialed into his children’s needs. In my experience, marriage is God’s number-one anti-poverty strategy. Dads are not just optional equipment or accessories; they are essential to a thriving and happy home life. And while I have met some phenomenal single mothers who accomplished miracles, single parenthood should not be allowed to become the new normal in our society. We need our dads at home.
When a mother and father split up, they have to establish two complete households. That means that all the money the man now has to spend on his own rent, utilities, and upkeep is not available for investing in his children. Staying together is not only pleasing to God; it is pleasing to your financial situation.
Has your dad been a steady provider for you? Take time today to thank God for him, and you might just thank him too.
