Finding the Light in Grief

DAY 5 OF 7

DAY 5

WEAKNESS

Welcome back to our week’s study on grief. Unfortunately, grief is a process we all partake in, as loss is inevitable. We have had four days this week learning the five psychological stages of grief, the lamenting process Scripture teaches, Jesus’ reaction to our grief, and God’s omnipotent presence in our lives, even when we push Him away in our pain.

As we seek to understand the Holy Spirit’s involvement in our grief, we must know God understands when we don’t have all the words.

There are times we can pray and not say anything at all. Did you know that? Perhaps you have never tried a prayer this way before, but today we will learn how it works.

Let us look at Romans 8:26-27:

26b The Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And He who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the Will of God.

The Apostle Paul wrote these words in a letter to the Christian churches in Rome as he desired to express the character and power of God. Paul had first-hand experience with what He wrote about as He encouraged the teaching and spreading of the Gospel.

Within these verses, we can understand that we don’t even need to have all the right words as we pray. Quite honestly, we don’t even need to have all our emotions figured out. All we need to do is be present with God. As we sit in God’s presence, the Holy Spirit will speak for us.

The Greek word for wordless used is alalētos (pronounced al-al’-ay-tos), meaning not expressed in words. Just as we have no words to express our feelings of loss, the Holy Spirit understands and can communicate them for us. God searches our hearts, and the Holy Spirit intercedes when we are too broken to communicate ourselves.

In closing today, I want you to know it’s okay. You are already grieving, going through some of the worst pain you can humanly carry, and you don’t need to even know how to pray to God. All you need to do is meet Him, and the Holy Spirit will intercede and pray for you. You can have a wordless prayer. God still hears you and will care for you.

I’m leaving you with this: at the end of our verse today, Scripture notes that the Holy Spirit intercedes for us in accordance with the Will of God. Prayers that are aligned with God’s Will provides peace over your soul.

I’ll meet you tomorrow as we explore acceptance.
