Courage Over FearSample
Courage To Change
I like taking pictures, and one of my dreams is to become a good photographer. Not a great one; I would be happy with being just a good one. I aim to take pictures without unacceptable background items, such as unknown people with open mouths. I want an image that I can post on social media with pride. I needed help and signed up for a free iPhone photography class at my local Apple Store.
When I arrived at my class, four older ladies were sitting at a table, talking amongst themselves. When the 20-year-old something instructor arrived, we all introduced ourselves and proceeded outside to learn more about our iPhones' capabilities. It was windy and cold, but we were determined to learn. The instructor began to show us "hidden" features on our phones and other excellent techniques and pointers. We took pictures of each other in various lighting schemes and poses; we were excited about our newfound knowledge. I knew immediately that our families and friends would not be safe in our presence after this day. We had just enough information to be dangerous.
I will never forget one particular thing that our instructor told us. "If you want a perfect picture, you must create it." She explained that once we have our subject in focus, we should take a few seconds to look at the subject's surroundings. "If there is something in your picture that you don't want, change it." She demonstrated how we could move our camera to adjust lighting, remove unwanted cars in the background, etc.
Change it! That is what stuck with me. Who could imagine that you could receive life lessons at the Apple Store? If you want a great picture or a great life, you have the power to create it. Jesus has given us the power of free will, allowing us to make decisions that will align with his desires for our lives. Today, I challenge you to identify things you no longer want or are not beneficial to your future. You can remove people, habits, past hurts, emotions, and other things that prevent you from becoming great.
Take your time, look closely at your life, don't leave anything untouched, and be truthful. Your life can be better, and you can be better. Psalm 84:11 lets us know that no good thing will our Lord withhold from us. So, ask Jesus to search your life and your heart. Is there anything that you need to remove? It's not too late; you can have a picture-perfect life.
Dear Jesus,
Today I ask you to comb my heart for anything that hinders the great life you have planned for me. I relinquish my will for your will and plans for my life. I pray for the courage to change the things that I can change. I pray that you remove anyone and anything that will prevent me from becoming who you want me to be. Without excuses or justification to others, help me to stand in truth every day. Jesus, not only do I want to have victory, but I want you to teach me how to live in victory and not settle for anything less than a perfect picture.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen
