How to Continue Experiencing Jesus After the WeekendSample
“Garbage in, Garbage out.” “What you put into it is what you get out of it.” Ever heard those sayings? Sometimes the thoughts we can’t seem to shake make us feel like garbage. They make us feel like we aren’t enough and never will be.
Maybe you often think you need more. More clothes, more shoes, more new technology… all for what? So that we stand out among our peers? So we are accepted? Maybe you often think you need to be better. Better at school, better at your sport or instrument, better and not disappointing people. No offense, but these thoughts are garbage.
These thoughts are what Paul describes as “high-sounding nonsense” in Colossians 2 verse 8. If only I had ____. If only I was _____. We think having more is what we need, but the truth is God supplies us with all we need. And what you need, or rather, who you need, is Jesus. Relationship with Jesus. The love, forgiveness, and grace of Jesus.
So instead of letting garbage infect our minds, let us build our lives on Him, not our skewed thoughts. How can our lives be more about Jesus and less about ourselves? We begin by thinking of Him more than we think about ourselves. When you start to be consumed with thinking only of yourself today, begin to think of Jesus. Speak today’s scripture readings out loud to redirect your mind and heart away from the garbage and towards the goodness of God.
