Uncommen: Blind SpotsSample
Hide And Seek In The Garden
Genesis 3:8-11, And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?” And he said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself.”
When you read about Adam and Eve trying to hide from the maker of the universe, you probably make a face or shake your head. You say to yourself, “why would you think you could hide from God?”
How long did it take you to realize that you (and I) do the same thing?
- That sin we fall for all too often
- Those words we speak that do not glorify God
- That grudge we hold on to instead of forgiving someone
- That second look at a woman/man that leads to lust
- That thing we put in front of God all the time
Then we ignore it. We don’t bring it up in prayer time. I’ve heard it said that we commit sin retail and confess sin wholesale.
Sin: We lust after that woman we see on television.
Prayer: God, help me with all my sins.
You and I might as well be right there next to Adam and Eve hiding behind one of those trees.
I love how God said, “Where are you?” like He didn’t know. But wanted to give them (us) a chance to confess. God knows exactly where we are in our walk with Him.
I guess when you think of it, Adam and Eve at least had the illusion of distance to hide from God. You and I, as believers, have the Holy Spirit living within us, and He knows every thought, unspoken word, look, and feeling that never makes it out.
Just as Adam and Eve needed to confess what they did to God, we must also confess. The beautiful thing is we have a Redeemer who has paid our sin debt. We don’t have to be ashamed and hide, but approach the throne and seek God’s Mercy.
Questions:
Do you pray retail or wholesale?
Do you try to hide your sin from God? Do you think you are successful in doing so?
Challenge:
I challenge us all to keep in mind our relationship with God and live as if we indeed “walk with Jesus.”

About this Plan
As Christian men, we strive to live our lives according to God's will and purpose. Even with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we can still have blind spots that prevent us from fully experiencing the abundance of grace and blessing God has in store for us.
