Trust God : A Holy Week DevotionalSample
How to believe God for the impossible?
Today we want to reflect on how we can believe God for the impossible! Could we ever expect new life? When things are bleak, when we are waiting with no end in sight, do we still believe that anything good can come out of this situation? It could be a relationship, dream, or a ministry. It could be our struggle to trust others who have hurt us in the past, or sin might have broken our ability to love or forgive.
Jesus is faced with a similar situation at the death of his dear friend, Lazarus. His sisters, Mary and Martha wished that Jesus would have come earlier. Their brother had been in the grave for 4 days now. There was no hope of any sort of resurrection. This was not a new concept to the people of that time. In fact, even the Pharisees believed that there would be a resurrection, but they kept looking forward to that event. Jesus says “I am the resurrection and the life”. Think about it. The resurrection is not an isolated event but rather it is a person, and that person is Jesus! He is the author of life! When Jesus is there, there is always hope for a resurrection! There is always hope for new life! Nothing is too far gone. There is no situation that God cannot work a resurrection in.
He gives life to even what has died or what we perceived to be dead. It may be because of the depravity of sin that we think there is no more hope. But Jesus reminds us that where He is, there is always hope! Where He is, there will be new life! We can believe God for the impossible.
Challenge
If God could raise Jesus from the dead with all the sin of the world on Him, there is nothing too far gone for Him to resurrect! Just like the second criminal hanging beside Jesus, all that is left from us to believe! If there is hope in death, then there’s endless hope for us in eternity!
