What is your motivation?
A friend once asked me this question: "But seriously, how do you write your books?" In that moment, I understood that what has become normal for me through years of experience is still a stumbling block for others on the way to their dream! Many people write to me, "I would so love to write a book" or "I have this dream, but I don't know how to…!"
Believe me, I dread writing another book every time I start. Even worse is recording an album because I know it means staying focused and concentrating on it for months…I realize, for example, that I'll have to forgo a lot of things like social outings, watching Netflix, and scrolling through social media.
Writing a new book also requires me to invest a lot of money and sort out many unexpected problems along the way to my goal. As I consider starting the journey ahead of me, I often question if it'll all be worth it.
In moments like these, I have to press through and realize that "what's worth it" in the eyes of the world, for example, doesn't matter because my motivation isn't to write the next bestseller. My motivation is how the next sentence I write or the next song I sing might make a difference in someone's life!
Remember that phrase when you're having a hard time sticking to it: How could Jesus use this to change someone's life?
If the right motivation is your foundation, the reward of your labor will be much more valuable! You will experience amazing things. When I focus on how Jesus might use my work for His Kingdom, I receive surprising strength and conviction to help me stay with it, even when it costs me everything!
I encourage you to calmly consider what God has placed inside of you so He can speak to people through you—and then get behind it!
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." (Philippians 4:13, NKJV)
You are a miracle!
