The Life of David Pt1 - 1 SamuelSample
1 Samuel begins with the birth of Samuel (around 1005 BC), the last judge in Israel & concludes with the death of Israel’s first king, Saul (1011 BC). Originally written as one book, it highlights a significant time of transition in Israel’s history.
As 1 Samuel begins, Israel is a loosely organised tribal people living under poor spiritual leadership. Even still, God’s plan for His people continued as He raised up Samuel to guide Israel’s transition from a theocracy to a monarchy. As God established a king in Israel, He also established a new covenant with David that will ultimately find its fulfilment in Jesus Christ.
Though 1 & 2 Samuel displays plenty of leadership failures in Israel, the mercy and grace of God are displayed through His promise to use this broken nation to bring about the Saviour of the world.

About this Plan
The books of 1 & 2 Samuel tell the stories of three broken heroes used by God to establish a kingdom for His people: Samuel, the revered last judge; Saul, the impressive first king of Israel; and David, the flawed poet-warrior. Beyond the page-turning adventures, battles, and political gamesmanship lies the story of a greater King—the true and forever reigning son of David, Jesus.
