As we read Exodus 17, we see the imagery of a rock struck to fulfil the thirst of the Israelites. This is a beautiful reminder that Jesus Christ is our rock, our cornerstone, which when struck, poured out his perfect blood to quench our soul's thirst for righteousness. Amalek can be seen as a symbol of the “flesh” God’s people will be warring against the flesh nature as Exodus says in verse sixteen “from generation to generation”. We cannot war alone; we must surrender to Jesus as our Lord and be surrounded by community to “keep our arms up” in a worshipful stance. Moses had Aaron and Hur helping him hold up his arms. Who do you have in your life helping hold your arms up when you get weary?
