Becoming a Son That Pleases the FatherSample
PLEASING THE FATHER IN THE MUNDANE ISSUES OF LIFE
John 8:28-29
28 Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.
29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.
For anyone seeking to please the Father, the ruling question before doing anything is, “Will this please the Father?” When Potiphar’s wife offered herself to Joseph, his response was, “How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?" (Gen. 39:9b). Joseph’s major concern was how the Father would feel about it.
Always ask yourself in every situation, “What is going to give the Father the greatest pleasure in this situation?” I implore you to implement this in your decisions from now on. Maybe you want to buy another pair of shoes but there is a brother in need, ask yourself that question. Which one will give the Father greater pleasure? I’m sure you must have assumed that giving your money to the brother in need will give God greater pleasure, but this may not necessarily be so.
You must seek God’s face to know His will on every matter before taking any step. God might want you to buy yourself a pair of shoes while He arranges for someone else to meet the brother’s needs. Following the Father’s will is different from being religious and sanctimonious.
As you mature spiritually, you must depend on the Holy Spirit to differentiate between God’s will in the seemingly mundane issues of life. Jesus said, “The Son can do nothing of himself, but what He seeth the Father do: …” (Joh. 5:19). That is the secret of His exceptional result. The Holy Spirit will confirm it to your spirit and the whole heaven will back you up if what you are doing is pleasing to the Father.
PRAYER: Father, in my everyday living, like Jesus, I will always do those things that please You, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
