3-Step EvangelismSample
Step 3: Say
If you’ve followed the apostle Paul’s plan for evangelism, you’ve prayed that “God may open a door for our message” and tried to “make the most of every opportunity” to love your non-Christian friends (Colossians 4:3,5). But private prayers and acts of love cannot create Christian faith in a person’s heart. Only the message can. No wonder Paul, in that same context, wrote, “Pray that I may proclaim [the message] clearly” (verse 4). Proclaim it. Share it. Say it.
But what will you say? There’s no script, but the Holy Spirit will help you, so don’t be scared. Maybe you “say” your story. “I haven’t been a perfect person. Pretty far from perfect, to be honest. But Jesus says he forgives me, that he won’t leave me. That’s why I believe in him.”
Maybe you “say” something about your church. “It’s really helped me, and I’d love for you to join me. It’s not as scary as you think. Can I pick you up some Sunday?”
Maybe you “say” an answer to their question. “Sounds like you’re confused why God let that happen. I’ve felt that way too. We actually just talked about that at church and I learned . . . Could I send you a link to that message?”
Don’t let the devil deceive you. There is no one better equipped to share Jesus with your closest friends and family than you. They know you. They trust you. They are likely to listen to you. So pray first, love next, and say the name of the One who saved your soul!
