Wisdom for Winning in Life

DAY 6 OF 10

Being a Light in the Darkness

The summer before college, I got in the best shape of my life in order to try out for the soccer team at Notre Dame.

On the first day of school, after only an hour of tryouts, the coach blew his whistle and yelled, “Don’t call us, we’ll call you.” Suddenly, my college soccer career was over.

Because I wasn’t good enough to play collegiately, I decided to work within college sports and since then have devoted my professional life to students.

Over the past fifteen years, I’ve found that college sports desperately need Jesus. There’s a lot of passion, pride, and competitiveness out there, but not nearly enough of Him.

God can use courageous men and women to step in and fill this void by demonstrating a radical love that only comes from Christ and brings honor to His name.

As it says in Matthew 5:16, God is looking for people who will “let [their] good deeds shine out for all to see” in the darkness. By loving Him and others well, we can use whatever platform we’ve been given to impact people’s lives.

No matter where God has planted you, He’s calling you to be a light within the darkness and to use your situation to honor His name by the way you represent Him daily.

Lee De Leon, Collegiate Athletic Director

What does it look like to be a light in the darkness? How can you be bold and make the most of the platform God has given you?

Dear God, thank You for the opportunity to represent You.
