Bible Characters Who Fulfilled Their Destiny: And How You Can Do the SameSample
His Grace to Us
We’ve come to the last day of our devotional. I trust you’ve been inspired by God’s leadership over His people. All of the characters we discussed had one thing in common: the grace, mercy and favor of God was over their lives, and this was often recognised by the people surrounding them.
Joshua
“...He took Joshua…and he laid his hands on him and inaugurated him, just as the Lord commanded…” Numbers 27:22b-23
Abraham
“I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing.” - Genesis 12:2b
Joseph
“the LORD was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favour.” - Genesis 39:21
Ruth
“May I continue to find favor in your eyes, my lord,” she said. - Ruth 2:13
Esther
“And Esther won the favor of everyone who saw her.” - Esther 2:15
David
“...And the Lord said, ‘Arise, anoint him; for this is the one!” - 1 Samuel 16:12b
Solomon
“Wisdom and knowledge are granted to you; and I will give you riches and wealth and honour, such as none of the kings have had who were before you, nor shall any after you have the like.” - 2 Chronicles 1:12
Grace, Identity, Purpose
As we walk into our destinies that God has chosen for us, it won’t be by the strength of our own hands or our own cleverness. God Himself will grant us favor and grace to receive what He has in store for us. We were once enemies of God, but while we were still sinners, He died to adopt us into His family. We are no longer slaves to sin, slaves to our fleshly desires and whims, but as recipients of grace, we have a new identity: children of God. You have purpose in this world. Our very salvation is by the work of Jesus Christ. All of His promises are received from a place of rest, not works and strife. This is God’s special grace and favor over us, His children, today.
So take a moment today to reflect on whether you are resting in the finished work of Jesus regarding the calling over your life. His grace and favor is to protect you, to lead you, to give you everything you need to live a godly life.
Reflective Question
Are you in a place of strife or rest regarding your pursuit of God’s will for your life?
Prayer
Father, thank you that You have accomplished Your purpose for mankind because Jesus fulfilled His destiny in becoming a sacrifice. It pleased You to bring many sons to glory through His death and resurrection. I believe that since I have received the Son, I will receive all things from You, including grace to fulfill my destiny. It is not through my own strength and resources. It is through You alone.
Amen.
About this Plan
Within us is a great desire to fulfill some kind of destiny. Learn from Joseph, Ruth, Esther, David, Solomon and Rahab, who all had a calling on their lives that ended in victory. God has given us these stories to learn how to do the same. 'Destiny' isn't a strange concept that falls outside your faith. In your day-to-day life, you are being shaped for His purposes.
