Defeating the Devil’s Designs With the Armour of GodSample
Defeating Distraction
Distraction
Yesterday we spoke about the destruction that disunity in the body of Christ brings. The reason disunity is so powerful is that it distracts the church from the Cornerstone of the church, Jesus Christ.
If the enemy can’t bring us to believe his lies, he might try to fix our attention on other things. These distractions are not necessarily bad in themselves. But when they consume our attention, they can detract from the life that God wants to bring to us, and decrease our willingness to follow His instructions.
Busyness
It is very easy to become a ‘Martha’, allowing ourselves to be swept up in the chaos of our physical needs and exalting these needs above our need for Jesus. In our digitally-directed lives, it is easy to give in to busyness. We are permanently available for contact, we are bogged down with the endless social media feeds. When we allow ourselves to be in a perennial state of distraction, the word of God is choked up in our hearts. Our priorities are out of balance, and we do not tend to the work of the Kingdom.
The Helmet of Salvation
Jesus asked us to seek first the Kingdom of God and to give up everything to follow after Him. God’s design for clarity defeats the devil’s design for distraction. A helmet protects the head and a spiritual helmet protects the direction of our thoughts. Put on your helmet of salvation!
Reflective Question
Do you feel like you have too much on your plate? Have you submitted your focus, thoughts, and schedule before the Lord to ask for His clarity?
Prayer
Jesus, thank You that we can leave everything to follow You. We do not need to love the world or the things of this world. We do not need to be in control of everything. You have promised to take care of our every need - we don’t need to worry about this life. Lord, there are so many needs, and there is so much to do. But in You, I can drink up and find satisfaction so that I do not thirst for anything. I choose to seek first the Kingdom and to clarify my life around this call. I will not be distracted. I will not miss Your voice because I’m too busy. I will take time to hear You, to follow You, to prioritize You. Protect me from the enemy’s schemes to distract me, and help me to defeat them with the helmet of salvation. Amen.
About this Plan
None of us will go through this life without facing battles. The death of Jesus Christ and His resurrection mean that we can share in His victory and be conquerors and overcomers. He never promised us that we would not suffer, in fact, He warned us that we would have many troubles in this world. Our strategies for facing these problems are outlined for us in the Bible.
