God's 7 Promises for YouSample
The power of promises!
Have you ever considered how many small promises you make in a single day?
“I will call you in a minute.”
“I’ll have that project to you by 4 o’clock.”
“I’ll be home by five.”
“I’ll be right back.”
They may seem small and insignificant, but each statement carries an expectation of completion, especially for the person on the receiving end of the promise. It is difficult to think how many of our promises go unfulfilled every day. I would love to challenge you to make today a miraculous day and fulfill every single promise that you make. I will accept my challenge too!
God never breaks a promise and neither should His people. Listen to what the Word of God says to us about our part in keeping our word. Take your time and allow the Word of God to sink deeply into your soul. Remove all of the distractions, focus, and hear God’s word to you:
The Bible says:
“The integrity of the upright guides them, but the crookedness of the treacherous destroys them.” (Proverbs 11:3, NIV)
“It is a trap to dedicate something rashly and only later to consider one’s vows.” (Proverbs 20:25, NIV)
”Don’t make rash promises, and don’t be hasty in bringing matters before God. After all, God is in heaven, and you are here on earth. So let your words be few.” (Ecclesiastes 5:2, NIV)
”If you make a vow to the Lord your God, don’t avoid keeping it. The Lord your God expects you to keep it. You would be guilty of a sin if you didn’t. If you didn’t make a vow, you would not be guilty. Make sure you do what you said you would do in your vow. You freely chose to make your vow to the Lord your God.” (Deuteronomy 23:21-23, NIV)
”If you make a promise to God, keep your promise. Don’t be slow to do what you promised. God is not happy with fools. Give God what you promised to give him. It is better to promise nothing than to promise something and not be able to do it. So don’t let your words cause you to sin.” (Ecclesiastes 5:4-7, NIV)
“All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.” (Matthew 5:37, NIV)
Just as God’s promise matters, so do ours! We are people of THE word, and people of OUR word. God wants us to honor every aspect of our lives where a promise is involved. When you think about it, what a miracle it would be if we kept our promises in our marriage, our friendships, our business dealings, and our parenting!
My prayer for today is that we will take our promises as seriously as God takes His!
Where do you need to follow through on a promise today? Where do you need to go back and sincerely apologize for a promise that was broken? Today, offer someone in your life the gift of a promise kept. In doing so, you will be just like Jesus!
You are a miracle!
