Collecting Confidence

DAY 5 OF 5

Isn’t it funny that the older we get, the more we remember the good old days? When I talk to my parents or friends, we always end up talking about when we were kids, how we would run wild and free. How getting a new Pat Benatar record or watching MTV videos on TV for the first time opened our eyes to dreaming even bigger?

I have a theory about that. When we were young, we were free to be truthful with ourselves. I think it’s because that’s when we believed in ourselves the most. When we were younger, we would swing from vines into the creeks and didn’t flinch at mosquitos or snakes. We rode bicycles down dirt paths, hitting the occasional rocks, but picking ourselves back up and going ahead anyway. We fearlessly dreamed and carelessly hoped. This was before we cared about being thin and attractive or thought about responsibilities. Back when we were whole and unafraid, when the magic of life was real and obtainable. There were no limitations on our imaginations or dreams. And we weren’t afraid of saying them out loud. We didn’t worry about how something was going to happen; we just did it. We didn’t care how we sounded; we just knew somehow that the songs we sang into our hairbrushes while looking in our bedroom mirrors were important . . . and we knew in our bones we were important too.

Sometimes you need to look back before you can surge ahead. Let’s stand in awe of our lives again and celebrate how far we’ve come and look forward to what’s ahead. Go into that deep place and remember who you were. Remind yourself you were fashioned for greatness even before you drew your first breath. . . .

You are nowhere finished with what you’ve started. You have a voice and a reason for being on this earth at this time, girl. If you believe this, then you’ll experience more than you ever dreamed possible. You aren’t just blindly going from one place to another; you are heading to a specified, beautiful place God has prepared for you in advance. And even when the world doesn’t notice all you do, God notices.

Prayer

Father, I am so thankful that You’ve prepared a place for me, and I am excited about the work You have for me. Please be with me as I rediscover the person You’ve created me to be. Amen.
