Here, Paul reaches out to a member of the Philippian church to reconcile two women who were in disagreement. I think we can all say that we have been in a disagreement at some point in time with someone. I know I have! But why does Paul feel the need to address this situation? Aren’t there bigger problems to be dealt with than a silly disagreement? Possibly, but I believe this passage shows us how important it is to God for His children to be unified. He longs for all of us to be in peace with one another and sometimes for that to happen we have to fight for it. That may involve having hard conversations, apologizing, or needing to forgive. The enemy is always going to try to bring division among us and will try to sneak in jealousy, getting offended, or any kind of disunity. But by the power of the Holy Spirit, we can overcome!
My challenge to you today is to ask God if there is any relationship in your life that needs unity. Let Him show you if you are holding anything against someone. I encourage you to have the hard conversation and talk to them. Fight for unity! Allow the Holy Spirit to guide your conversation and watch the Lord bring restoration, peace, and joy. And just like it says in verse 4, CELEBRATE! When unity does take place that is something to celebrate about! Let us not allow the enemy to win in this area of our lives. Let us love each other well, not hold grudges against anyone, and be the first to forgive. Remember, the only way we can truly do that is by asking the Holy Spirit for help and being obedient to what He says.
Prayer points:
- Ask God if there is anyone you need to reconcile with.
- If you are holding any grudges or unforgiveness, ask the Holy Spirit to reveal it and to start transforming your heart.
