The Spirit Testifies on Our Behalf

We often testify about God through our experiences to help others avoid making the decisions we’ve made. The Holy Spirit does the same for us: He testifies that we belong to God. Our obedience to God, to His work, becomes obvious when we do what He asks of us. His Spirit then bears witness that we are sons of God.

Even when the enemy comes to accuse us, the Spirit testifies on our behalf. He rights the wrong things. He removes accusation, shame, and guilt. Jesus is there to take the witness stand and intercede for us (Romans 8:34).

Through the Spirit, God challenges us to help others be more like Him. He can then testify that we are His children all the more. Following His promptings and leading makes us more like Jesus, more like co-heirs. Maintaining our position in Christ is the only way that the Spirit can testify that we are children of God.
