Why Not Right Now?: A 5-Day Devotional by Jesus CultureSample
"WHY NOT RIGHT NOW?"
Written by Bryan Torwalt
One of my favorite things about writing songs is when we get to write with other people. We almost always start off a songwriting session by catching up, and quickly start to share about the ways that God has been speaking and moving in each other’s lives. During this particular writing session, we began sharing stories and testimonies from our past of when God either showed up in a personal way, or moments when we’d been in a church, conference, or worship night and God moved powerfully in a room full of people longing for Him - moments that marked us all and set us on our own paths to follow Jesus with everything we had.
As the song began to unfold I remember getting emotional just thinking about it and having a deep desire to see our daughter grow up in rooms full of people hungry for God, and for her to have her own moments and testimonies where God showed up in ways that she could never deny.
I love how, the more I read the Scriptures, the more I discover God’s heart for generations. Jesus makes it clear while answering a group of Sadducees in Matthew 22:32 that “God is the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob”, and in Acts 2:17, when God sends the Holy Spirit and the outpouring begins to spill out into the streets, Peter quotes the prophet Joel saying, “And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.”
Revelation 19:10 says, “that the Testimony of Jesus is the Spirit of prophecy.” So, as God pours out His Spirit on a generation or a group of people, their testimony can become a springboard of faith and hunger for the next generation. Even in our own, more recent history, moves of God like the Azusa Street Revival, the Jesus People Movement and as recent as the Asbury Revival - it stirs a hunger and faith in me to see God move in a real way in my life, and in the lives of my family, friends, church and city. I pray that as you listen to this song, or read these words, that God would fill you with faith and hunger to see Him move again in this generation.
“If He did it before, He will do it again. It’s only a matter of time, so why not right now?”

About this Plan
Jesus Culture Music presents a 5-day devotional plan based on its album, “Why Not Right Now?" to remind you that what God has done throughout history, He can still do today. Join Chris Quilala, Bryan & Katie Torwalt, Chris McClarney, Banning Liebscher, and Derek Johnson as they share the meanings and verses behind the songs. If we've seen God do it before, then why not right now?
