Mary: Becoming a Girl of Faithfulness

DAY 3 OF 5

OK, let’s keep learning about what it was like for Mary to be Jesus’ mom. We are going to need to fast-forward 12 years. Mary is living in the town of Nazareth with Joseph and Jesus. Each year, they celebrate the Passover feast. And guess what? This requires an annual road trip!

Read Luke 2:41-52

This year’s Passover trip doesn’t go super smoothly, does it? Mary and Joseph were on their way home from their trip, and all of a sudden, they looked around and could not find Jesus. Mary and Joseph headed back to Jerusalem to continue their search, but for three long days they were unable to find Jesus.

When they found Jesus in the temple, He gently reminded Mary and Joseph who He was and still is today: the Son of God and Savior of the world. It would take a lot for me to forget a day like that.

After what happened at the temple when He was 12, we don’t read anything else about Mary and Jesus until He is 30 years old! That’s 18 years! I wonder how all of the years in between these Magnificent Moments looked. What were Mary’s typical days like? Was the rest of her life as exciting as these Magnificent Moments? Probably not. In fact, a lot of mooments were probably quite mundane. What does that word mean?

Mundane: lacking interest and excitement, dull, not special.

I’ve noticed that a lot of the things we consider mundane are things no one sees. Think about how much of Mary’s life no one saw! A lot of it. Do you know who sees when no one else does? God sees everything and He cares about our hearts in it all. From the Magnificent to the Mundane Moments in life, God sees it all and cares about it all. What is He looking for? What does He care most about? I’m glad you asked!

Read Psalm 139:1-4 and look at all the things God sees and knows.

God cares about our hearts and our thoughts and all the things going on inside of us! A lot of the things you just saw are pretty mundane. God sees them! Do you know why He notices them? The mundane parts of your life reveal your true heart. Any of us can have a good attitude when something magnificent is happening! But it’s a whole different thing to be happy, loving, and positive when you’re doing something ordinary.

This brings us to another FAITHFULNESS LESSON:

A faithful girl is content in the magnificent or the mundane.

But what does content mean? Content is being satisfied.

The next time you’re doing something boring and tempted to have a discontented heart, remember: The mundane prepares us for the magnificent. If I could have you take one thing away from our time together today, it would be this: In the magnificent and the mundane, your heart should stay the same.

About this Plan

Mary: Becoming a Girl of Faithfulness

Enter Mary’s story and learn how you can become a girl of faithfulness. God doesn’t need the best athletes, the most beautiful girls, or the exceptionally talented to do great things for Him. He just needs an ordinary girl who is willing to say, “Yes.” Mary’s life proves to us that when a True Girl responds with faith in the moment, it brings a beautiful, forever blessing.
