5 Pillars of Disciple-MakingSample
The Faith Cup
"For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.” Romans 10:10
In this cup rests your entire relationship to God through Jesus Christ. This first major area of life is the center of all others, and we should pour a little life into this cup every time we meet with someone we are discipling. This cup includes one’s faith in Him, obedience, trust, listening and following His voice, loving and feeding upon His word, and service to God and others. If one matures here, it WILL spill over into the other key areas of daily living. As you picture five cups on a table, imagine this one in the center with the other four life areas surrounding it. Christ and our life, with and in Him, is to be the center of all and not simply one of the major areas of life.
This would include asking questions to yourself and the one you’re discipling, like:
- How often do you read and study the Bible? Have you been able to make it a habit?
- Do you have a time set aside to talk to God and listen to His voice?
- How have you faced the struggle of feeling like you can’t hear Him?
- How do you nurture worship in your life?
- Have you had any moments where you knew you were in His presence? What was it like?
Everyone struggles with the disciplines necessary to develop a relationship with Jesus. Thinking through your journey and prepping to talk about it will help you be ready to encourage those you disciple effectively.
Reflection Questions:
- Why is faith the center of our lives?
- What does it mean to truly have faith in hard situations?
