 <div class="p">1On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus&#8217; mother was there, 2and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3When the wine was gone, Jesus&#8217; mother said to him, &#8220;They have no more wine.&#8221;</div><div class="p">4 &#8220;Woman, #2:4 The Greek for Woman does not denote any disrespect. why do you involve me?&#8221; Jesus replied. &#8220;My hour has not yet come.&#8221;</div><div class="p">5His mother said to the servants, &#8220;Do whatever he tells you.&#8221;</div><div class="p">6Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.#2:6 Or from about 75 to about 115 liters</div><div class="p">7Jesus said to the servants, &#8220;Fill the jars with water&#8221;; so they filled them to the brim.</div><div class="p">8Then he told them, &#8220;Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.&#8221;</div><div class="p">They did so, 9and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside 10and said, &#8220;Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.&#8221;</div><div class="p">11What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.</div><div class="p"></div>

That is why miraculous powers are at work in him.&#8221;</div><div class="p">3Now Herod had arrested John and bound him and put him in prison because of Herodias, his brother Philip&#8217;s wife, 4for John had been saying to him: &#8220;It is not lawful for you to have her.&#8221; 5Herod wanted to kill John, but he was afraid of the people, because they considered John a prophet.</div><div class="p">6On Herod&#8217;s birthday the daughter of Herodias danced for the guests and pleased Herod so much 7that he promised with an oath to give her whatever she asked. 8Prompted by her mother, she said, &#8220;Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist.&#8221; 9The king was distressed, but because of his oaths and his dinner guests, he ordered that her request be granted 10and had John beheaded in the prison. 11His head was brought in on a platter and given to the girl, who carried it to her mother. 12John&#8217;s disciples came and took his body and buried it. Then they went and told Jesus.</div>

 <div class="p">1Some time after this, Jesus crossed to the far shore of the Sea of Galilee (that is, the Sea of Tiberias), 2and a great crowd of people followed him because they saw the signs he had performed by healing the sick. 3Then Jesus went up on a mountainside and sat down with his disciples. 4The Jewish Passover Festival was near.</div><div class="p">5When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, &#8220;Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?&#8221; 6He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do.</div><div class="p">7Philip answered him, &#8220;It would take more than half a year&#8217;s wages#6:7 Greek take two hundred denarii to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!&#8221;</div><div class="p">8Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter&#8217;s brother, spoke up, 9&#8220;Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?&#8221;</div><div class="p">10Jesus said, &#8220;Have the people sit down.&#8221; There was plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down (about five thousand men were there). 11Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish.</div><div class="p">12When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, &#8220;Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.&#8221; 13So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten.</div><div class="p">14After the people saw the sign Jesus performed, they began to say, &#8220;Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world.&#8221; 15Jesus, knowing that they intended to come and make him king by force, withdrew again to a mountain by himself.</div>
