Serving Challenge Kids: An 11-Day Adventure to Serve Like Jesus

DAY 8 OF 11

Who Did Jesus Serve?

Nick Vujicic was born in Australia with no arms or legs. Whenever he drew pictures of himself as a stick person, Nick would draw a lollipop: a body and head—but no arms and legs.

When Nick was born, his mother was too scared to hold or look at him because he was different. After she recovered from the shock, Nick’s parents took him home. They were Christians and believed that God had a plan for their son. They loved him and gave him the best childhood possible. But school was a nightmare.

Nick had a tough time accepting that he was different from others. Oftentimes, he could not participate in activities. Nick felt lonely and was bullied by some of the other kids. He thought his disability made him worthless and would be better if he weren’t alive.

Being rooted in anything other than Jesus leads to disappointment. Jesus is the only trustworthy source of hope and joy. Once Nick realized this, his whole life changed.

Nick let God determine what his abilities were, not other people. At age seventeen, Nick shared his faith at a prayer group and later started an organization called Life Without Limbs. Nick made it his mission to lift anyone who would listen. Read what he said:

“... for every disability you have, you are blessed with more than enough abilities to overcome your challenges.”

Nick had a brain, eyes, ears, mouth, and body, so he refused to give up. He realized that it was even harder when Jesus went to the cross than what he had to go through.

Jesus lost more than just His arms and legs. He was obedient to death. And it wasn’t just any death but the worst, most humiliating death of all. Jesus humbled Himself to lift you up.

There will be challenges in life. But rather than giving up when things get tough, look to Jesus. He faced the worst things possible so that we could be overcomers!

Challenge:

Not only does Jesus help you see the hurt in the world, but He gives you the ability to help. Ask someone what the hardest part of their day was today. Based on what they say, find a way to serve them today.
