Nehemiah: God's Invitation to RebuildSample
Opposition of Others
At times we can find ourselves surprised that we face opposition in our pursuit of godliness. Jesus reminds us in the Gospel of John that the world hated Him first, and it will hate us because we belong to Him. Throughout Scripture, the enemies of God have sought to oppose God's people and even destroy them. Time and again, we see how God rescued His people from their enemies.
Of course, even if we don’t find ourselves surprised when opposition arises, we still may find ourselves discouraged. But, just as God gave wisdom, provision, a mindset to work, protection, ability, and speed to the Israelites rebuilding the wall, so will he do the same for us. Our God is faithful and will not forsake His own.
When we face hostility, and we will, let's be people who look up and remember from where our help comes. We can be confident that God will accomplish His plans, and no one can stop Him.
Prayer: Father, thank you that we can walk with the confidence that you are sovereign. When we face rejection and opposition from this world, remind us to look up and remember that our help comes from the one who made heaven and earth. Nothing and no one can stop your perfect plan. - Amen.

About this Plan
Often touted as a “leadership” book, Nehemiah is rich in application. The way Nehemiah led the exiled Israelites in Persia to rebuild and reoccupy Jerusalem was as much an exercise in surrender and supplication as it was leadership and strategy. In this 21-day reading plan, we’ll look to Nehemiah as a role model in prayer, obedience, perseverance, and, yes, leadership.
