God's Redemption Story (Genesis)

DAY 5 OF 25

My son often gets his clothes on wrong. His pants are backward, his shirt is stuck in his waistband, and his shoes are on the wrong feet. Technically, he is clothed, but I know his feet will soon be sore, his pants will rip when he sits, and his shirt will rub in weird places. He often argues with me that this is how he likes it. As a parent, I can choose to let him continue in the way he has clothed himself, or I can choose to step in and help him get dressed in a way that will actually be good for him long term.

We’re more competent than my four-year-old in getting our clothes on, but perhaps there are areas of life we are attempting to take care of ourselves when we really need to surrender and let God “clothe” us instead. This could be like trying to plan our futures without God’s guidance. Maybe it is trying to brush a mistake under the rug when God wants to forgive us instead. God didn’t clothe Adam and Eve because they deserved it or because He was obligated. God clothed them because He created them with love, and even in their mistakes, His love for them did not waiver. Even when we think our way is the way we like it, is it really what is best for us?
