7 Key Points of the Gospel (Taken From Paul’s Letter to the Romans)Sample
Key Point 6: Our lives must be radically changed
“So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions.” (Romans 6:11-12)
We have already discussed many important elements of the Gospel. But there are a few more things to mention.
We have already read that all people need salvation, and that it can be found in Jesus Christ. Perhaps that raised the thought that Christians can do whatever they want if they believe in Jesus. After all, at the end of their lives, their sins will be forgiven and everything will be all right. According to this reasoning, the Gospel has little potential to make this world a better place. But that is only a half-truth.
In Romans 6:1-2, Paul explains that believers have “died to sin.” They can no longer live in sin because from now on they are God's children. This involves a radical change. In Galatians 2:20, Paul even says, “It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me”.
To become a ‘better person,’ you don't have to search for your inner self. You don't have to perfect yourself. Rather, your ‘old self,’ your sinful desires, must die. Instead, a ‘new person’ arises who longs to live according to God's will (with ups and downs).
Has such a radical change already taken place in your life? Do you long for it to happen?
