Leaven: The Hidden Influence

“He told them another parable. ‘The kingdom of heaven is like leaven that a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till it was all leavened.’” Matthew 13:33

About leaven:

Leaven is one of the three basic ingredients of most kinds of bread and other baked goods. The leaven does three things:

● It causes the bread to rise and become bigger than it was in itself.

● It strengthens the bread dough by holding it together more firmly.

● It gives the bread a better flavor.

But how does it work? How does it do its job?

• Leaven is hidden in a very small measure in the dough that works quietly, consistently on the cellular level – the most basic level of life!
• It sends out tentacles to the dough cells it is within and grabs the sugars in the dough and feeds upon them, then releasing a gas into the dough causing it to rise.
• It takes over one cell at a time until there is a complete takeover.
