Do You Experience Dry Spells?
I'm not really good at sleeping. Either I don't fall asleep right away, or I wake up after a few hours and I'm wide awake.
But after an intense week and a beautiful wedding in the mountains where I got to sing, I could barely stand on my feet and was asleep in no time.
Sleeping is just so much better when you're tired, isn't it?
But isn't it like that with everything? Eating, for example, when you're really hungry and then you're served something delicious, ah, it tastes twice as good! It's the same with thirst, after a long sports session, for example. How good water tastes..
Hunger, thirst, tiredness... you associate all of these with something negative in the first place. You are missing something at that moment. However, all this brings a very positive aspect into your life: You long for something, and it’s within reach.
Do you long for God in the same way?
This may also feel negative to you right now, because your thirst has not yet been quenched; you just can't feel God right now.
But this thirst in you is causing something very, very good. Something that pleases God! That you keep seeking Him, just as you would keep reaching for that water bottle when you’ve passed the finish line—because you just know it will be there!
Even David, the man after God's own heart, knew such thirsts. In Psalm 63, he said:
"You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water." (Psalm 63:1 NIV)
David did not give up until he heard from God! Today I want to remind you that your thirst for God is very good! It causes you to seek Him even more consciously. Keep at it, because beyond the finish line is your thirst quencher:
“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13 NIV)
You are a miracle!
