Welcome to these devotions on Jesus-style leadership. You are going to learn so much about leading like Jesus. Basically, leadership is about influencing others. So, if you have influence on others, you are a leader. Maybe you are really keen about leading or maybe you are feeling a little inadequate. Whatever your feelings, God wants you to serve and grow as a Jesus-style leader. Timothy was a reluctant leader, but Paul saw his potential and encouraged him to “fan into flame” his leadership gifts. Working through these devotions will help you to fan into flame your leadership. Maybe you come from a long line of faith-filled Christians like Timothy (1:5), or maybe you are the first in your family to believe. Your family history doesn’t matter, but your faith in Jesus does. Jesus-style leadership starts with authentic faith. This means that you must be serious about following Jesus. That’s all you need. Paul did something special to initiate Timothy’s journey into leadership. He put his hands on his head and prayed for him (1:6). Whether something like this has happened to you or not, consider yourself called and gifted by God for leadership. Because of your authentic faith in Jesus, you are on your way as a Jesus-style leader.

Prayer

Lord, I thank you for those who have seen potential in me. I thank you most of all that you have seen my authentic faith. I want you to use me to influence others towards you and your ways. I feel I have so much to learn, but I am ready. May you forge me into the leader you have designed and called me to be.
