8 Keys to Sharing Genuine Appreciation at Work

DAY 8 OF 8

Being Emotionally Intelligent

Many believers think that there is no room for emotions in matters of faith. However, the Bible supports recognition of human emotions. In John 11, Jesus weeps. Notably, other major figures of the Bible experience feelings of anger, joy, relief, and fear. We’re also told to feel what others feel; in other words, be emotionally intelligent. Romans 12:15 is a verse about emotional intelligence.

To be emotionally intelligent means that we are in the moment. God is aware of every single issue we are facing and will ever face, but we are still being challenged by God through the Apostle Paul in the book of Romans to survey the environment we find ourselves in and consider the emotional needs of those around us. And like the verse tells us, we rejoice when rejoice and we weep with those who weep.

While God is a God who encourages individuality, our ability to correctly assess the emotional climate helps us to live in harmony with other believers. We become attuned to what the Christians around us need, much like the Holy Spirit helps us to interpret what God is saying. Our emotional intelligence causes us to fit among other peculiar people.

Galatians 6:2 tells us to bear one another's burdens. When our brothers and sisters choose to be strength for us, our load lightens.

To bear the burden of another, we need to be sensitive to their needs. We talk to other Christ-followers. We make an effort to get to know them and do our best to live in community with them. Community works best for the body of Christ and keeps everyone sharp. As we are supported in our emotions, we can support everyone else, lifting them up. It’s that support that God always envisioned we’d have for one another.

Day 7

About this Plan

8 Keys to Sharing Genuine Appreciation at Work

We are all God’s children, and therefore, brothers and sisters. Believers show their love to one another differently and these attributes are a marked contrast compared to people who live by the culture of the world. This eight-day plan explores how Christ-followers show genuine appreciation for others through Romans 12:9–15.
