Faith is a lifelong journey in which trust in God grows.

What does living by faith look like? Abraham is a great example. He left his family, friends, and familiar culture to travel to the other side of the world of his day. He was not driven by a vision of a better life in Canaan. He had no idea where he was going or what he would find there (11:8). He just knew that God had spoken, and he trusted God’s call, so he obeyed in faith. This was going to be typical of Abraham’s life—a journey in which Abraham heard God, obeyed him, and saw God fulfill His promises. Abraham didn’t always get it right. Sometimes he headed off on his own and messed things up. But most of the time, Abraham lived by faith, and the result was fulfilled promises. This is the journey that all Christians, especially Jesus-style leaders, are on. God is moving us away from relying on our own efforts and solving our own problems to putting our trust fully in what He says by believing His promises. Jesus-style leaders don’t always get it right, but this is the way God calls us to live. We are on a faith journey—hearing God and trusting that what He promises will eventually happen.

Prayer

Lord, I have trusted you. I have believed in your promise of eternal life through Jesus. Now you are calling me to expand my faith by trusting your ongoing direction and promises. May my belief, trust, and hope in you continue to grow as I pursue this journey of faith. Forgive me when I listen to my own dreams or fears. Help me to listen to you and continue to trust. Grow me into a leader with great faith like Abraham.
