Advent: The Coming of Jesus Christ

DAY 10 OF 25

DEVOTIONAL

Wow! What a story! But this was just the beginning of Mary's journey. Today, we're focusing on this young girl who decided to be a servant of The Lord and to do this hard task. Take a moment to imagine it - this young woman being visited by an angel. She's about to get married, but then Gabriel throws a curveball. Pregnant? Not married?

In Jewish culture, being pregnant and unmarried was a big no-no. Imagine how she felt at that moment.

  • Terrified by the angel - it'd be cool to be visited by an angel...but scary at first!
  • Sad that her engagement would most likely end
  • Worried about who would believe she was still a virgin and pregnant with the Messiah? Not to mention being scared to RAISE the Son of God...talk about pressure.

But she responded in obedience despite all of the fear and reservations. God knew she was the obedient girl to be the Mother of Jesus.

ACTIVITY

Part 1: Spend a moment reflecting/discussing Mary. What a heroine of the Bible! Thank God for choosing a woman of such FAITH to carry the Light of the World.

Part 2: Ornament Relay

Rules of the Game: You only need a spoon and a plastic ornament ball.

Put the ornament on the spoon and the spoon handle in your mouth. Gather your household and take turns timing each person to see who can finish the finish line quickly without letting the ball drop.

After the first round, take it up a level! Create obstacles in the path and add more turns - like going through more rooms in the house.
