Remembered for Good: The People of GodSample
A Legacy of Good
The significance of the Book of Romans cannot be overstated. William Tyndale, the English reformer who translated the Bible into English, once remarked that Romans is the “principal and most excellent part of the New Testament.” It’s been described as the most profound work in existence and even likened to the “Cathedral of the Christian Faith” by a French commentator. Martin Luther, the great reformer, believed that every Christian should know Romans by heart, emphasizing its depth and richness. After immersing myself in its teachings, I echo Luther’s sentiments.
The structure of Romans is beautifully balanced. Chapters 1 through 11 provide us with foundational doctrine, while chapters 12 through 16 offer practical application. Romans is a testament to the idea that doctrine isn’t just theoretical; it is meant to be lived out and applied in our daily lives. Doctrine and application go hand in hand, guiding us in our faith journey.
Romans 16 marks the end of the profound book of Romans. This is dedicated to those who helped Paul in God’s mission for Him here on Earth. Its passages help us think about the legacy we leave behind.
The stories, faith, and dedication of the men and women mentioned in Romans 16 are sources of inspiration. We only get a few details of their lives and contributions to the kingdom, but we know each played their part; because they did, we can read this today. At the end of Romans 16, Paul introduces us to some of his companions in Corinth, where he penned this letter destined for Rome. Though lesser-known, these individuals played pivotal roles in the early Christian community.
Starting from verse 17, we’re presented with a roadmap on how to be remembered for good. Paul starts with a cautionary note, a warning to heed. But he doesn’t leave us there; he follows it with two messages of encouragement, uplifting our spirits.
In this introductory devotional, I challenge you: as you reflect on the teachings of Romans and the legacy you wish to leave, how will you ensure you’re remembered for good? As we journey together through subsequent devotionals, may we be inspired to live out the truths of Romans in our daily lives.
About this Plan
There are those who are remembered for good in Paul’s letter to the church in Rome, and those around us. By promoting unity, giving our lives away, and prioritizing praise, we too can leave a legacy worth remembering.
