The Journey Through the Untamed
The journey of Jesus to Galilee, filled with the Spirit’s vigor, became widely known across the lands. —Luke 4:14
It’s not by mere chance that before Jesus embarked on his journey of preaching to the masses, he received a powerful affirmation from The Father: “You are my beloved Son; in you, I delight.” This declaration of joy by The Father came before Jesus performed any wonders. Following this moment of affirmation, Jesus ventured into the unknown wilderness. As recounted in Mark’s narrative, Mark 1:12, the “Spirit promptly guided him into the wilderness.”
Have you ever traversed through a metaphorical wilderness? It could stem from a loss, illness, economic hardships, or discord in relationships. Such times can feel isolating as if there’s no way out. It’s simpler to offer praises when life is smooth. Yet, we are called to praise in two instances: when our hearts are willing and even when they resist. In his time in the wilderness, Jesus faced temptations but remained unwavering, anchored in his true self—this, too, is a path we can follow. After withstanding these trials, he commenced his public work.
The pivotal aspect here is Jesus’s reliance on the Spirit’s power [dunamis]. This term, 'dunamis,' originating from the Greek language of the New Testament, denotes the invigorating might of the Divine Spirit, a central theme of this 7-Day Prayer Journey. In prayer, we seek the Divine breakthrough, inviting transformative might into our lives and the world. Interestingly, our word “dynamite" is derived from this ancient Greek word. Jesus’s ability to endure the wilderness, overcome the trials, and begin his public ministry was made possible through the dunamis of the Holy Spirit.
True strength is not found in self-reliance or mere optimism. It is the miraculous, dunamis power that flows when we forgo the simpler path and embrace God’s grand vision for our lives. Today, reflect on the temptations you face—what decisions do you feel called to make to allow the flow of God’s dunamis?
Prayer: Holy God, let your dunamis power guide my decisions, leading to your greatest purpose. Amen.
Prayer Focus:(to carry with you today) In the dynamism of the Spirit, I embrace your vision for the future.
