Preparing for Marriage BiblicallySample
THE MARRIAGE PROJECT REQUIRES CONTINUOUS MAINTENANCE AND OCCASIONAL REPAIR
When you build a house, most times it requires continuous maintenance and occasional repair. A well-built house may not need any repairs. When it comes to marriage, most marriages need repairs. However, my counsel is that you should not push your marriage to the point that it will require a major repair or the pulling down of the entire building. If you bought a house, asked a structural engineer to check it out, and he said the house had no structural integrity and the only solution was to pull it down and start something afresh. That house will collapse on you one day if you choose to live in it as it is and ignore the engineer’s instructions.
I hope that your marriage will not need any repairs, but if it does, don’t let it be a demolition of the entire building. A marriage that will be full of joy is one in which the partners involved have understood the principle of continuous maintenance and are applying it very well.
You may not need repairs, but you will need maintenance. As a husband, have you told your wife, “I love you” today or in the last three days? If you haven’t, you are not doing maintenance. Go to her now and tell her, “I love you!” As a wife, did your husband buy you a gift (not a birthday gift) in the last one month? When you buy gifts for your wife, you are just doing maintenance. Your husband is not doing you any favour buying the gifts; it is a maintenance allowance. When you honour your husband and prepare his meal with love, you are maintaining the marriage.
For the singles reading this, it is my prayer that your marriage will not need repairs. For the married, you must be honest with yourself about the true state of your marriage because real change is impossible without the truth.
PRAYER: Lord, I decide today that I will not allow issues in my marriage to deteriorate. I take the wisdom of continuous maintenance, in Jesus’ name. Amen!

About this Plan
Too many people today do little or no preparation when it comes to marriage; instead focusing their energy on a one-day wedding event! The Bible says, "Two are better than one, for they have a better reward!" For these results and rewards to follow your marriage, there is a preparation phase before marriage because it is when preparation and opportunity meet together that destinies happen.
