Thriving the Holidays: Practical Hope for Families of Addicts

DAY 5 OF 5

These past few days we have focused on how not only to survive but thrive this holiday season. As we journey through this holiday season, my hope and prayer is that you are able to enjoy and get the most out of it even as you continue to take the time to think through your expectations, boundaries, and control.

Today, let’s close out our study by thinking about what you can do to bring JOY.

You might wonder how you can find joy when your family is separated because of addiction. Or your loved one is out on the street. Or they just got arrested.

But joy is still there—it just has to be found. So this year, maybe you can start a new tradition of finding joy. Maybe you’ll find joy as a family by giving to others, wrapping presents together, serving the homeless, going to the movies, playing a game, calling old friends, writing cards, or doing random acts of kindness.Whatever it might be, do it.

We also find joy when we place our HOPE in Jesus and have faith in Him. So this season, place your HOPE in Jesus and celebrate His birth. Through Him we can find joy. And through Him we can THRIVE!

If you’re hoping to find kindred spirits to help you Thrive the Holidays with your addicted loved one, there might be a Finding Hope meeting happening near you. Finding Hope is a support group for loved ones of addicts and alcoholics that exists to provide community, education, and encouragement. To learn more or find a meeting near you, go here.

Day 4

About this Plan

Thriving the Holidays: Practical Hope for Families of Addicts

Holidays can be very triggering and difficult when we love someone in addiction. The season brings a mix of feelings and stress, and we can often lose the joy and excitement the holidays should bring. But it doesn’t have to be this way! Amy LaRue of Finding Hope lays out practical, scriptural ways not just to survive the holidays but THRIVE.
