12 Rules for Life (Days 9-12)

DAY 3 OF 4

Day 11: The Courage To Embrace Risk

Scripture: Joshua 1:9 - "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."

Quote: “Do not bother children when they are skateboarding.” - Jordan Peterson

As dawn pierced through the darkness, young David, against all odds, stood before Goliath.

Every ounce of logic screamed against the match.

Yet, in this unequal battle, courage was born and legends were made.

Peterson's counsel reminds us of the value of embracing risk, of allowing the unfolding of battles that shape warriors.

In the safety of suppression, growth is stunted, but in the arena of challenges, character is forged.

As children of God, we're not called to a life of comfort but of conquests.

Every trial is a stepping stone, every challenge, an artisan crafting the soul.

Think of young Joseph, sold into slavery, and imprisoned, yet, at every juncture, his character was refined, leading to his eventual ascension as Egypt's savior during famine.

I’m reminded of another MAJOR risk that someone took, THE CROSS. Jesus walked the road of becoming a man, faced life’s challenges, and EMBRACED the cross.

You know what, I don’t like facing challenges. I don’t like pain. I don’t like not getting my way.

But you know what, challenge is the birthplace of greatness.

Tough times are when you discover WHO you are and WHAT you believe.

When David faced Goliath, he didn’t take the easy route. He took the route that was in front of him.

When Joseph was sold into slavery, he didn’t give up and feel sorry for himself. He did what was in front of him.

Even now as I type, I sense this message is for someone in these types of situations.

You are not in the easy lane. You need courage. You need the Lord’s presence. You need a fresh perspective from the Lord.

I’m believing that RIGHT NOW for you. I’m believing for the Lord to show you what you can do.

He loves you and cares for you so much.

What do you need to do or say to the Lord right now?

He is there, and He is listening.

What do you need?

If it was just you and Him having a chat, what would you say?

What is holding you back? Get rid of it.

What are you afraid of the most?

What is keeping you stuck?

What dream have you thrown away?

If I could leave you with anything else right now it would be to get somewhere quiet and reflect on these questions with the Lord.

Do it as if your life depended on it. Don’t wait.

You are so valuable.

Let me give you a few more questions to consider:

  • How has avoiding risk affected your growth?
  • What can you learn from the challenges that seem insurmountable?
  • How can God’s promise of presence embolden you to face your giants?

Affirmation: "I am courageous, for God walks with me through every challenge, molding me into His image."
