Pause: A Month of Joy in Five Minutes a DaySample
Proclaim
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.” (Phil. 4:4-5)
Prompt
Hope is so real.
During my journey of sobriety, almost everything I’ve hoped for has come true. Even in the midst of my disappointments, God has brought me hope and often showed me that I wasn’t dreaming big enough yet.
Despite that, God has watered the dreams and visions He planted inside of me and brought them to life. What was once only a small “hope” has now become a thriving organization helping hundreds of people every day.
Hope, when birthed inside the will of God, is the most powerful thing on this planet. It’s these hopes that God uses to pull us to more fulfilled and free lives. It’s these hopes that God uses to provide for the joys of our hearts.
I know God has planted hopes inside of you. Today is a great day to dream a little. To get alone with God, talk about the hopes in your heart and ask Him to guide you to the next step. Rarely is a big dream or big hope instantly accomplished or provided for; instead it’s a series of small answers to prayers that God provides consistently over time that lead to the big hopes in your life coming true. So today, trust that God wants to hear all the seemingly small hopes in your heart so He can begin to lead you to something bigger than you could ever imagine.
Prod
What hopes has God planted inside you? Write them down—even the big ones. Go spend some quiet time alone with God today and talk to Him about what’s on your heart. He can’t wait to be with you!

Pray
Jesus, you’re my hope. You have given me this new life, this new heart and all these new hopes in my soul. Thank you for all the hopes and dreams you’ve planted inside me. Show me what I need to do—and what I need to leave for YOU to do today. Amen.

Depression. Loneliness. Comparison. Greed. Addiction. People-pleasing. These are tools of the enemy to steal your calling and rob your joy. In this reading plan, drawn from his book, Lance Lang invites you to neutralize those tools by taking a pause each day, studying scripture, reading encouragement, taking action, and refocusing your attention on Jesus. Press forward into what God has for you. Press pause.
