21 Day Favor FastSample
DAY 6: COMPASSION
Prayer Topic: Pray for a heart of compassion toward those in need.
Devotional: Compassion is a reflection of God's heart. In Matthew 9:36 (NIV), it says, "When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd." Jesus' compassion moved Him to minister to the broken and hurting.
During this fast, let's pray for a heart of compassion toward those in need. Let's ask God to open our eyes to the suffering around us and empower us to be instruments of His love and compassion. This may look like compassion towards an overwhelmed mother, or loved one who has been hurt and pushes others away. This can also be compassion for the lost and those far from the love of God
Quote: "Compassion asks us to go where it hurts, to enter into places of pain, to share in brokenness, fear, confusion, and anguish. Compassion challenges us to cry out with those in misery, to mourn with those who are lonely, to weep with those in tears." – Henri J.M. Nouwen
Reflection 1: Reflect on moments when you've been moved with compassion for someone in need. What did you do in response to that compassion?
Reflection 2: Consider ways in which you can intentionally cultivate compassion in your daily life, both during and beyond this fast. How can you make a difference in the lives of those who are suffering?
