God, Me, and Us – Part ISample

God, Me, and Us – Part I

DAY 3 OF 5

What’s Distracting You?

In our lives filled with constant distractions and challenges, it’s easy to lose sight of what truly matters. Amidst the chaos, our focus on God often wavers, leading us down a path where we find ourselves sinking in our spiritual walk, in family life, in our careers, and even in our friendships. Overwhelmed, we keep sinking, caught in a cycle of distraction and avoidance.

Why do we find ourselves in this repeating pattern? The answer, surprisingly, lies in how we manage our time, which is often a reflection of how we manage our pain. In moments of stillness, we are forced to confront the aches in our hearts, something many of us would rather avoid. Whether it’s through meticulously planned schedules that offer an illusion of control, or through mindless activities to numb the pain, we’re all guilty of using time as a shield against our deeper hurts.

I remember a period in my life when I struggled immensely. Each night, I would play solitaire on my phone, seeking solace in the game's predictable victory, the cards cascading with the promise of a win. This simple act was my way of coping, a temporary distraction from the pain I was unwilling to face. It raises an important question: What are your distractions? Food, exercise, endless scrolling through the Internet, or perhaps an unhealthy habit? Maybe you immerse yourself in work or focus entirely on others, neglecting your own heart in the process.

Our time management is often a subtle form of pain management. We live distracted, not addressing the real wounds within. Jesus is the Healer of hearts. To make progress amid life’s inevitable storms, when facing valid and real hurts, we need to refocus on Him.

Our journey towards healing and wholeness begins when we shift our focus from the distractions to the solution. By focusing on Jesus, we open ourselves to His transformative power. He invites us to walk with Him, to heal our hearts, and to confront the issues we’ve long avoided, even if it means seeking forgiveness.

Distractions are more than mere diversions; they become crutches that prevent us from spending genuine time with God in the boat, amid the wind and waves of life. The real solution, the true focus, is Jesus. In Him, we find not just the answer to our distractions, but the path to a healed and whole heart.
