Money, Business, and the Bible

DAY 4 OF 7

You are a Steward of God’s Resources

Jesus tells this powerful parable about the responsibility we have with what God has entrusted to each of us. In this parable, which is an earthly story with a heavenly meaning, Jesus clearly illustrates the importance of being good stewards. There are three servants, and each is entrusted with different amounts of talents. We all have different amounts of money and resources, but everyone has something. Each of us has the same responsibility to invest what we have been given for the glory of our Master.

We also know through this story that we all are simply stewards of what has been entrusted to us. When we see what we have as God’s money and resources, then it changes how we live. We are not simply called to build our own kingdom, but to build God’s Kingdom. The first two servants “immediately” went and put what the Master had entrusted to them to work. They doubled what they had been given, and then returned it all to their Master. But, the third servant was “afraid” and did nothing.

Notice that Jesus teaches there will be rewards based on what we have done with what are given. The first two servants are commended for their wise and diligent actions and told that since they were faithful with little, they will be given more. However, the last servant is told that he will be cast out because he is “wicked and lazy.”

One day we will all stand before God and there we will face two judgments. The first Judgment will center on what we do with Jesus - did we accept Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior and follow Him with our lives? The second Judgment will be about what we did with what we were given. We all get one shot at life. One opportunity. What will we do with the money, resources, time, and opportunities that God has entrusted to us? We will be diligent and put what He has given us to work for His glory? Or, will we be wicked and lazy? Every day, let’s be faithful and make a difference for our Master. Let’s invest what He has entrusted to us in building His Kingdom.
