With Your GodSample
Acting justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly are not easy. Each of these commands from God require us to walk closely with him. Walking with God is something we can learn and grow in, but the pressure of growth isn’t all on us. The Holy Spirit guides and teaches us to bear good fruit as we mature in our relationship with God.
Denying our sinful nature isn’t just a matter of discipline or self-mastery. It is God’s Spirit who transforms us! The Holy Spirit can do a work in us that no amount of self-improvement ever could. God can change a heart of hate into a heart of compassion and a mind of confusion into a mind of peace. People who are rude, selfish, and violent can become people of love, joy, and goodness with God’s abiding Spirit.
Reflection Questions:
Philippians 3 says God works in us and gives us the desire to do what pleases him. Who are you trying to please? God? Others? Yourself?
Galatians 5 tells us that the Holy Spirit’s work in us will produce good fruit. Is there something within yourself you’ve been trying to change without results? Ask the Holy Spirit to transform you like only he can - by renewing your mind.
