Letting Go of the Words That Imprison Us

Some people think too much about themselves, are over-confident, self-sufficient and lack any dependence on God. Most, however, lack self-confidence and see themselves as unworthy. Their mantra is, “I'm not good enough!” and this includes many highly gifted and already accomplished people.

The great leader Moses said to God, “Send my brother – I can’t speak.” Gideon hid when told that he was a mighty man of valor. Jesus, however, knew who He was, where He had come from, why He was here, what He was doing and where He was going. He was comfortable doing the lowliest servant job whilst accomplishing the highest kingly task (John 13:1-17). Why? Because Jesus lived in the affirmation of His Father. He knew that He was accepted and loved by God and that He didn't need to strive to perform for Him in order to justify His existence. His thinking about Himself was perfectly aligned with God's word.

Let’s be like Jesus!

We must abandon all the negative words and stereotyping that our past life has imposed on us and be renewed in our thinking. We need to believe and confess that we are who God says we are: “The apple of His eye” (Zechariah 2:8; Deuteronomy 32:9-11) and His “treasured possessions” (Exodus 19:5; Isaiah 43:2,4). There are scriptures too numerous to relate here that tell us who we really are in Christ.

Renewing our minds with these truths will heal and restore our broken identities and set us on the right track to accomplishing all that God has planned for us. As we do this, dealing with the serious negatives that prevent us from being fully aligned to God’s blessing, we can expect that blessing to increase.

In Christ we are new creations and have become the righteousness of God. When we understand the power of this truth we will realize that there is no place in our lives for fear, guilt, shame or condemnation, even in our times of weakness and failure. When God looks at you He sees His righteousness. Because you are in Christ, what He observes is you “hidden” in Christ. We are legitimately seen as “righteous” before God because of the divine exchange that takes place in our life as we identify with the finished work of Christ on the cross.

All the root issues that release such emotions are already dealt with. We are righteous, even more than forgiven. Dare we say it like that? Yes. Through Christ we are put in right standing with God, as though we had never sinned. Wow! Grasp this truth and you have positive ammunition for keeping your alignment to God’s blessing.
